New Year's Resolutions

New Year's Resolutions

New Year's Resolutions date back some 4,000 years ago to the ancient Babylonian's.
The Babylonian's would make promises in order to earn the favor of god's.  They would make promises to start the new year off on the good foot.  They promised to repay debt and to return things that they borrowed and never returned during the year.

Today some of the most popular resolutions include:
-loose weight
-eat better
-go to the gym
-improve finances
-start a business
-get a better job
-make new friends
-pray more
-spend less time on social media

Many resolutions fail because people tend to set unrealistic goals.  They do not track progress.  People tend to become frustrated and just forget about them.

If you plan on making a resolution keep it simple, make it something you know that you can accomplish and keep track of your results.

Happy New Year from Your Friends at Rankl & Ries Motorcars!

Winter Tips and Tricks for your Vehicle

  1.  If your windows steam up on the inside, keep a chalk board eraser inside your vehicle and use it to wipe the moisture off the inside of your windows.
  2.   You also can fill a sock with kitty litter and place it on your dashboard. This will help absorb water to keep your windows from fogging up!
  3.  Keep extra socks in your car! You can put these OVER your shoes to help give you added traction is case you need to push your car or walk in the snow and ice.
  4.  Do your wipers have a tendency to stick to the windows? Get a cloth or a sock and pour rubbing alcohol on it.  Wipe this on your wipers.  This will stop them from freezing to the windows.
  5. Doors freeze shut in the cold? Spray cooking spray on the door cracks and rubber. This will prevent them from sticking in the cold.
  6.  If you do not have heated mirrors, place a sandwich bag over your side mirrors.  When you are ready to roll out, pull them off! No more icy, frozen mirrors.
  7.  Keep kitty litter in your trunk! Not only will the weight on your back tires help you if you are stuck, you can also spread some under the tires for extra traction!

Do I need winter tires?

Do I Need Winter Tires?

If the winter temperatures where you live go below 45 degrees you
should invest in snow tires.

All-Season tires are made to handle dry roads, wet roads and light snow.
The tread of all-season tires can get hard during the low temps.
This causes less traction between the road and your tires.

Thanksgiving Travel Tips

Millions of Americans will be hitting the roads this week to go
over the river and through the woods.  It is a time for families to gather and give
thanks.

We wanted to share some tips to make your travel more enjoyable.

1.  Have a Positive Attitude
Everyone is trying to get somewhere.  Be patient.  You will get there. Enjoy the
fall leaves and scenery around you.

2.  Leave Early
Don't wait until last minute to pack the car and leave.  Give yourself time for delays.

3.  Use a Traffic App
Check your app store on your phone for a traffic application to tell you where there
are accidents and backups.

4.  Use an App for Gas
Download the app Gas Buddy to help you find the cheapest fuel prices while on the road!
Nothing like saving some dollars!

5. Take a Break
When you start to feel anxious or uptight, take a break.  Pull over and get a snack and stretch your legs. Give yourself a few minutes to relax.

When Is The Best Time To Rotate Your Tires

The best time to rotate your tires would be when you get the oil changed.

Many manufacturers recommend that they be rotated every 7,500 miles or every 6 months.

Rotating the tires between the front and the back a couple of times a year helps
them to wear evenly.  This is the same for all-wheel-drive vehicles as well.

Check your owners manual to see what your manufacturer suggests.

Timing Belt, To Replace or Not to Replace

Timing Belt, To Replace or Not to Replace...

Timing belts are costly to replace.  Most vehicles today need to have them replaced after
so many miles.  So that leaves the question, Do I need to replace it?

Your timing belt controls many basic functions.  For example, your water pump and your
alternator to name just a couple.

If the timing belt wears down or breaks while you are driving it can cause your vehicle to die
right where you are at.  That is a big safety issue.  Imagine being in the middle of traffic and
your car breaks down. When it breaks it can also cause other damage to your engine.

Your timing belt needs replaced as well so that you can run at full efficiency.  A bad
timing belt can cause your car to run poorly.  Your piston rod can slip and bust through the engine itself.
Then you will need to replace your engine.
So yes, in order to keep your vehicle running and in tip top shape you need to make sure
when the time comes to replace your timing belt.

The Dreaded Check Engine Light

The Dreaded Check Engine Light

There are many reasons the check engine light can pop up on your dash.

A common reason can be a faulty O2 oxygen sensor, mass air flow sensor, or spark plugs and wires.
Even something as simple as a loose or damaged gas cap.

Your vehicle maybe running normal. But don't ignore the light!
This could lead to a more costly and expensive repair.

When your light pops on get it checked.

Pumpkin Carving Tips

When you think about fall and Halloween you think about pumpkins!
Making a Jack-O-Lantern is not just for kids.
It is a way to create memories and a great way for family to interact with each other.
So put the phones down...get over to the local pumpkin patches and have a great
family night.  Get your hot apple cider and check out these pumpkin carving tips.

1.  Big pumpkins are easier to carve, So Go LARGE!

2.  The lighter the color the better.  It is easier to carve in details.

3.  If the pumpkin has any bruises or any soft spots, pass on it. It is already starting to get bad.

4.  If your pumpkin is heavy it has a thick skin.  Make sure to pick a lighter one.

5.  Use a boning knife to cut your design.

6.  To cut the lid use a large carving knife.

7.  For children, pick up a pumpkin carving set for safety.

8.  Don't throw out the guts...Bake them! Rinse the seeds, season and bake for a sweet fall treat.

9.  Use a dry erase marker to sketch your design.

10.  If you would like to keep your Jack-O-Lantern indoors that's fine! Sprinkle the inside with cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves! Your home will smell amazing!

Fall Car Care Tips

Keep your car running smoothly with these 4 Fall Car Care Tips

1.  If the oil is dirty or you’re at your recommended oil change time, change the oil. Also check the air filter to ensure that it is clean enough to allow for proper operation.

2.  Riding on the roads that are wet and leave covered can cause slippery conditions. Be sure to check your tire pressure and tread.

3.  To start your car in the colder temps you need to make sure you have a fully charged battery.  You also want to make sure that all the connections to your battery are clean and tightened.

4.  Cracked or worn wiper blades need to be replaced.  You want to make sure that you are able to see out of your windows to keep your family safe.
