Fall Driving Tips

Fall Driving Tips

Fall is such a beautiful time of the year.  The leaves turning, beautiful colors are everywhere.
The scenery is amazing! However, those leaves can mean tricky and hidden hazardous roadways.  Here are a few fall driving tips.:

-Wet leaves can be as slippery as ice.  Slow down on leaf covered streets.

-Slow down when driving on bridges and overpasses.  These freeze quicker than the main roads.
If they are wet and the temps are low they can have ice on them.

-Watch for animals.  Fall means it is the beginning of deer season.  Where there is one deer, there is a
good chance there are more close by.  Stay alert.

Back To School Tips and Tricks

Back to School Tips and Tricks from Rankl & Ries

It's that time of the year! Time that parents have been waiting on for months.
Back to School!! Many of our districts have started back already and in the next week the rest
of the kiddo's will be loading the yellow bus as well! Here are a few tips and tricks that the mom's
here at Rankl & Ries Motorcars have found useful!

1.  Create a family calendar.  This will help keep track of all activities and schedules for the
weeks ahead.  Nicole has kids in band and football.  She suggests using a white board like she has
in the kitchen so that everyone sees it daily.

2.  Make sure to create some family time each day.  Whether it is a night where you sit down at
a meal together or about a half an hour before bed.  Barb said that she finds this helpful to kids.
It is a time to ask questions about each other's day and also let them know that even though we get busy, we always have time for family.

3.  Make sure to set up a designated homework space.  Make this an area that does not have a TV or gaming system that may be a distraction  Also, Nicole suggests make this a no cell phone zone.

4.  Set up and keep to a weekday and weekend bedtime.  Consistency is key!

5.  Lay out school clothes the night before and if you pack, pack the lunchboxes as well at night.

6.  Set your clocks ahead in the house by 10 minutes.  This will ensure that your family is on
time and does not miss the bus.

7.  With such busy schedules with sports and other after school activities, be sure to keep grab and go
snacks on hand.

Here is to a great 2018/2019 School Year!!!

Tips For Your Next Test Drive

Today many of us begin looking for our next vehicle online.  We spend hours searching for
that perfect vehicle and perfect price.  Although some will purchase a vehicle
sight unseen, we recommend that you still go into the dealership to test drive and physically inspect
any vehicle before you sign any papers.  Here are some tips to follow when you are
out on your next pre-owned test drive.

1.  Did the vehicle start up on the first try?

2.  Does it shift easily and smooth?

3.  Check to make sure that the power windows and seats work.  Also check
the cruise control, A/C, heat, defrosters, radio, CD and DVD players work.

4.  Do you hear any noises?

5.  Does the vehicle have any rust or strange smells?

6.  How are the tires?

These are just a few tips for you.  You want to make sure when you are investing in a vehicle that it
is safe and reliable.

What is GAP Coverage

What Is GAP Coverage?

What is GAP coverage or GAP Insurance? Do I need it? It costs extra?
These are some of the questions that you may have when you are sitting in the finance office for your next vehicle purchase.  Here is some information for you.

GAP stands for Guaranteed Auto Protection.  It is a form of auto insurance that a car buyer can get to protect themselves against a total loss.

GAP insurance will cover the difference between your vehicles depreciated value and what you still owe if your vehicle is stolen or you are in an accident and it is a total loss.

In other words, let's say you owe $10,000 on your vehicle and you are in an accident.  Your insurance company says that it is a total loss.  They give you $5000 for the value of your vehicle. Now you are left still owing $5000 on a vehicle that you don't even have.  GAP would pay the remaining balance of $5000 and pay off your loan.

It is wise to invest in GAP coverage to cover yourself in case of such events.

Accidents Happen..Now What

Accidents Happen ...Now What

You are driving down the street and it happens, you are in an accident.  They happen so quickly and can leave you scattered.  Here are a few tips on what to do when you are in an accident.

1.  Check yourself and any passengers in your vehicle for injuries.

Call 911 for any injuries.  Even minor injuries need to be checked out by a healthcare professional.

2.  Get to safety

If your vehicle is still able to drive, pull off to the side of the road or into a parking lot. If you cannot move it turn on hazard lights.

3.  Call the police.

Even in a minor accident a police report is very important to have. Avoid taking blame at the scene and avoid placing blame on the other party.  Allow the police to determine who is at fault.

4.    Exchange information and document the accident.

Driver and passenger names
License plate numbers
Insurance information
Make and Model off vehicles involved
Contact information for eyewitnesses
Location and time of the accident
Name of police officers responding
**Take pictures with your cell phone**

7.  Notify your insurance.

Contact your insurance company with the police report number and any other information about the accident.

Car Cleaning Hacks Part 2

Car Cleaning Hacks Part 2

We spend a large amount of time in our vehicles.  We use our car in the drive to and from work,
running our kids back and forth to their activities and day to day errands.
We track all kinds of dirt and debris into our vehicles.
Getting a full detail can be rather expensive.  Here are a few cleaning hacks that work to help get your vehicle back tidy and neat!

1.  Clean up the Cup Holders

Soak an old sock in all purpose cleaner. Once it is soaked then put it in the
cup holder and twist! Simple as that!

2.  Clean the floor mats

All weather mats can be cleaned with dawn dish soap and water.  Fabric covered
mats can be washed in front load washing machine on gentle cycle.

3.  Clean vinyl and leather seats

You can use a wet Magic Eraser to scrub soiled spots.  Then mix 1/4 cup of olive oil
and 1/4 cup of white vinegar and rub into leather seats.  This will condition the seats and
disinfect as well. Bye Bye Germs!

4.  Make your rims and tires sparkle!

Dirt, grass, bugs and debris can take a drastic toll on your rims and tires.
Use 1/2 cup baking soda and a tablespoon of Dawn! Scrub and rinse!

Car Cleaning Hacks Part 1

Car Cleaning Hacks Part 1

We spend a large amount of time in our vehicles.  We use our car in the drive to and from work,
running our kids back and forth to their activities and day to day errands.
We track all kinds of dirt and debris into our vehicles.
Getting a full detail can be rather expensive.  Here are a few cleaning hacks that work to help get your vehicle back tidy and neat!

1.  Crumbs and Debris in Tight Places.

Use an old toothbrush or flat head screwdriver with a cloth wrapped around the end!
These items will get down into those tight spaces and gently removed dirt and grime.

2.  Dryer Sheets...YES, Dryer Sheets!

If you have those bugs stuck to the front of your vehicle, fill a spray bottle with water and wet
the area.  Take a dryer sheet and scrub. Simple as that! Bye Bye Bugs!

3.  Foggy Headlights

Overtime headlights get dingy and foggy. This causes others not to be able to see you or you to see them clearly.  The answer? Toothpaste and Pantyhose!
Toothpaste is an abrasive and it will remove the build up off the cover.  Cover the lights with toothpaste and wipe with the pantyhose.  Then clean with Windex or other window cleaner.  For best results use toothpaste with baking soda or whitening agents.

4.  Stinky Odors?

Sprinkle your seats and floor with baking soda.  Let it sit for a few hours and then vacuum up.
Baking Soda will neutralize the smells and get your car smelling clean again.

Kids, work, appointments and activities come into play when trying to find the time to
